Sending Love Overseas, 8/25/2024

Today we had a hands on mission event.

We started with a sandwich lunch, with turkey and ham and all the trimmings. As Methodist, you know we have to eat.

Recently we heard about the conflict in Armenia and the numbers of refugees that Project Agape is trying to help. After lunch, we packaged 25 boxes with items for little boys in Armenia. The boxes had some toys, some markers and crayons, a toboggan and gloves and some other items. These will be shipped to Armenia is November and should arrive in time for their Christmas celebration in January, during Epiphany.

Also, we had approximately 150 handmade items to send. There were afghans, lots of toboggans and scarves, some dresses and pants. These were made by some retired women in North Carolina. Armenia can be very cold in the winter. We hope these items bring them a little warmth and a message of love from us. The customs agents in Armenia have refused to accept gently used items. The mandate now is that all items must be new. since these handmade items did not have a manufacturer’s tag, we attached a tag to say they were handmade. We hope our items do not get stopped by customs but reach the people who need them desperately.

Thanks to all who participated.
