Rocky River Baptist Church was the gathering place for kids and families and volunteers. Families signed in and then had some crafts to work on. A Communities in School representative was present to give information in community resources.
After some crafts, the kids could play on the playground, play basketball or corn hole.
After some physical activity, everyone gathered in the Fellowship Hall. Pastor Jason gave a devotional about a young boy who wanted to be just like his grandfather, but he just couldn’t understand the Bible. After several trips to the river with the wicker basket that was used to carry in coal for the fire, and the boy growing frustrated, the grandfather said that the water cleaned the dirty basket. The grandfather explained that the Bible is like the water, it cleans us on the inside. Pastor Jason said that there was a Bible in each backpack and he hoped all the kids and families would read it.
We had a feast of hot dogs with all the trimmings. After lunch, the kids got their backpacks and finished the event with ice cream sundaes. And the teachers who were present got a care package and a chance to take for their classroom an assortment of tissues, hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes. One teacher said that it felt like Christmas.
Thank you Angie and Heidi for your vision of this event and working to make it happen. Thank you for inviting Sapling Ridge and Mount Vernon to join you in this important mission work.
