Memorial Sunday, 5/7/2023

Each year the church comes to remember those saints that have died since the last Memorial Sunday. While a bittersweet time of remembering, it is also a time of celebration of their lives. This Memorial Sunday we celebrated the life of Bernice Griffin Webster (10/9/1921-3/11/2019) and Brian Sidney Johnson (6/27/1969-3/29/2022). Their families provided beautiful flower arrangements to adorn the Sanctuary. We had 101 people in the church, celebrating all that it means to be family.

Our Guest Speaker was Pastor Randall Miller of the Cherokee Bible Church. (https://cherokeebiblechurch.org/). He shared a powerful message on John 3:16. He shared about God’s love and had us singing “Jesus loves the little children“. But then he challenged us that we need to move from the approach of God loving the world to God loving each person individually. He then has us sing “Jesus loves me“. God’s love gives us forgiveness when He gave us Jesus. And the focus changed to the end of John 3:16 when the word “whosoever” shows us that with accepting Jesus, we move to a life of promise and hope and one where we won’t perish. We are a non-perishable good. He closed the sermon with a plea to not be spiritual procrastinators, but to accept Jesus.

The choir sang a favorite anthem, Step into the water. We have been privileged to hear them practice the anthem over the last few weeks and they did a fabulous job today.

Thank you to the Administrative Council also for overseeing the painting of the church. It was a beautiful surrounding for a holy and special time.
