What a powerful evening of worship! We gathered at Mount Vernon GMC expecting a wonderful gathering and we got it.
The ministers from the seven churches in our subdistrict led in prayer, scripture, and communion. Jason Dickerson, pastor of the host church, welcomed us and led us in prayer. Linda Yow, from Meroney/West End led in responsive reading. Parker Coppedge from Piney Grove/Center, also read scripture and led communion. Kerry Wood from Goldston shared the sermon. He talked about the “Lee” family and how, as members of the GMC, we need to also be part of the “Lee” family. He shared that we need to worship passionateLY. We need to let the Spirit move us so that we are not just attending church but being the church. He told a time when his grandmother loved him extravagantLY by disciplining him. We need to love those around us by speaking truth and holding each other accountable. Finally, he said that the final family member may be the hardest. We need to witness boldLY. We all have stories to tell and need to share them with all the people around us.
Jordan provided music and in the final hymn, he told a personal story of when someone witnessed to him boldLY and it changed his day. We closed the worship with a passionate “I’ll Fly Away”.
And then the ladies of Mount Vernon served us a feast of chicken fingers, pimento cheese, sides, and wonderful desserts. It was a great time of fellowship.
Mark your calendar for the next worship on 7/30 at 5p.
